TLDR Topical minoxidil 2% improves hair growth in about 30% of users.
The clinical double-blind trials conducted in 1990 demonstrated that topical minoxidil 2% was effective in producing satisfactory aesthetic results in approximately 30% of treated patients. However, the study noted an unclear increase in hair count among placebo-treated subjects, which was hypothesized to be due to not accounting for seasonal hair density variations and confusion in categorizing hair types. The placebo did not significantly increase terminal hair count, explaining the lack of cosmetic benefit despite an increase in "non-vello" hairs.
