TLDR Managing PCOD involves lifestyle changes like exercise, healthy eating, and avoiding smoking and alcohol.
Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder affecting 5-15% of women at puberty. It is characterized by larger ovaries with small cysts, hormonal imbalances, and symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, acne, hirsutism, insulin resistance, hair loss, and obesity. The condition is linked to genetic factors and hormonal disbalance. Management of PCOD emphasizes lifestyle modifications, including physical activity like yoga, education, smoking cessation, a rational diet, avoiding alcohol, and weight management, to prevent future health issues.
