TLDR Rice germ oil improves hair health, but adding ferulic acid offers limited benefits and may worsen chemically damaged hair.
The study examines the effects of rice germ oil (GX-N) and ferulic acid (FA) on hair, focusing on their protective and restorative properties against damage from bleaching, heat, and UV radiation. Using analytical methods like FT-IR and SEM, the research shows that hair masks with these ingredients significantly reduce protein loss and structural damage. GX-N masks notably improve hair surface and strength, while GX-N+FA masks offer limited additional benefits. The GX-N mask effectively restructures bleached hair and provides protection against thermal stress, but its UV protection is formulation-dependent. The addition of FA does not enhance benefits and may worsen hair condition in chemically damaged hair, though it offers some protection against heat damage. Overall, rice germ oil shows promise for hair health, but further research on formulations is needed.
