TLDR Females, especially over 40, are more likely to experience temporary hair loss after hair restoration surgery.
This study investigated the risk factors for shock loss (SL), a temporary hair loss at the recipient site following hair restoration surgery, in 621 patients (554 males and 67 females) who underwent follicular unit excision. The study found that sex was a significant risk factor for SL, with an odds ratio of 30.18, indicating that females were more likely to experience SL than males. Additionally, age was identified as a risk factor among female patients, with those over 40 years experiencing a higher risk of SL compared to younger females. These findings provide valuable insights for both hair transplant surgeons and patients considering follicular unit excision.
