Ritlecitinib (Litfulo) Recommended for Severe Alopecia Areata in Canada

Canada’s Drug Agency recommends that Litfulo be reimbursed for treating severe alopecia areata in individuals aged 12 and older, based on evidence from the ALLEGRO 2b/3 clinical trial. This trial showed that Litfulo improved hair regrowth on the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes compared to a placebo. However, it did not significantly improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. The Canadian Drug Expert Committee found Litfulo to have acceptable clinical value, comparable to baricitinib, another treatment option. Litfulo addresses an unmet need, especially for adolescents, and should be reimbursed under specific conditions, ensuring its cost does not exceed that of the least costly JAK inhibitor for the same condition.
