TLDR Facebook groups help patients using scalp cooling therapy by offering support, advice, and product recommendations.
A survey study involving 219 women in five Facebook groups for scalp cooling therapy (SCT) users revealed that these groups serve as vital platforms for support, providing instructions for SCT use, advice on insurance, and recommendations for over-the-counter hair loss products. Despite the interest in hair loss solutions, only 5% of participants consulted dermatologists. The private nature of these groups offers a secure environment for learning from peers and SCT specialists. The study suggests that healthcare providers might consider recommending these groups to patients undergoing scalp cooling therapy, while also emphasizing the need for dermatologists to be aware of the sources of product recommendations and their clinical validity.
