TLDR S100A6 protein is linked to disease progression, especially in cancers.
S100A6, or calcyclin, is a calcium-binding protein from the S100 family, with research over the past 30 years revealing its altered expression in various diseases, including cancers, suggesting a significant role in disease progression. Studies have focused on its Ca2+ binding properties, expression patterns, and interactions with numerous ligands, both intracellular and extracellular. Despite extensive research, the complete biological role of S100A6 remains partially understood, with ongoing studies expanding the list of its ligands and elucidating its involvement in Ca2+-dependent cellular processes and pathological conditions.
