TLDR Satoyoshi syndrome is likely an autoimmune disease.
The systematic review investigated the autoimmune hypothesis of Satoyoshi syndrome, a rare multisystem disease characterized by symptoms such as painful muscle spasms, alopecia, and digestive issues. The study included 77 patients from 57 articles, with a majority being women. Findings indicated an association with other autoimmune diseases and the presence of various autoantibodies, particularly ANAs. Treatment with corticosteroids and other immunosuppressants led to improvement in 90% of cases, supporting the autoimmune etiology of the syndrome. Despite these findings, specific autoantibodies for Satoyoshi syndrome were not identified, and further research was suggested to enhance understanding and treatment strategies.
