TLDR Examining Survivin levels may help understand premature greying of hair.
This review aimed to evaluate the presence of scalp hair Survivin in patients with premature greying of hair (PGH). PGH can negatively impact self-esteem and is often seen as a sign of aging, although its onset varies among ethnicities. The precise causes of graying remain uncertain, but it may be linked to autosomal dominant primary disease or premature aging disorders like progeria. Survivin, a protein involved in cell division and inhibition of apoptosis, is overexpressed in several autoimmune diseases and plays a role in the survival of auto-reactive T- and B-cell clones. The study suggests that examining Survivin levels could provide insights into the mechanisms behind PGH.
