Scalp Immersion Proxigraphy: An Improved Imaging Technique for Phototrichogram Analysis
TLDR SIP is a better method for measuring hair growth accurately.
The study introduced Scalp Immersion Proxigraphy (SIP) as an improved imaging technique for phototrichogram analysis by applying immersion oil to the scalp, enhancing image contrast and accuracy. Comparing SIP with traditional proxigraphy (PT) on 16 scalp sites of 5 balding subjects, SIP provided more accurate linear hair growth rate (LHGR) measurements (0.317 mm/day) compared to PT, which underestimated LHGR by 30% (0.224 mm/day). The study concluded that SIP should replace crude proxigraphy for accurate hair growth assessment in clinical trials.
