TLDR Scalp micropigmentation effectively creates the look of fuller hair but requires skilled application and touch-ups.
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that provides an immediate visual improvement in hair density by mimicking hair follicles, making it particularly beneficial for individuals with alopecia, diffuse thinning, or poor donor sites. While SMP does not promote actual hair regrowth, it offers a cost-effective, low-maintenance alternative to traditional hair restoration methods, with minimal downtime and fewer risks. The procedure's success is highly dependent on the skill of the practitioner, and periodic touch-ups are necessary due to pigment fading. SMP is contraindicated for individuals with active scalp conditions or keloidal tendencies, and further long-term studies are needed to standardize protocols and assess the durability of results.
