TLDR Scalp psoriasis is a chronic condition that can be managed with treatments like corticosteroids and salicylic acid.
Psoriasis of the scalp is a chronic condition linked to genetic and immune system disorders, often leading to hair loss and impacting quality of life. The disease involves immune dysregulation, particularly affecting Th1 and Th17 T-lymphocytes, causing inflammation and increased keratinocyte proliferation. An imbalance in the scalp microbiome, including yeastlike fungi, may worsen the condition. Effective treatment involves topical agents with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, such as corticosteroids and salicylic acid. Modern treatments like Akriderm lotion, which contains betamethasone and salicylic acid, are favored for their safety and ease of use. Clinical cases from Altai State Medical University demonstrated that combination therapy with betamethasone dipropionate cream provided symptom relief within 2–3 weeks for patients with advanced plaque scalp psoriasis.
