Senescent Melanocytes in Nevus Skin Stimulate Hair Growth

    The study investigates the mechanism behind excessive hair growth in hairy melanocytic nevi, which is linked to the persistent anagen phase of hair follicles. Using mouse models with genetically induced oncogene-induced senescence (OIS) in melanocytes, researchers identified key signaling regulators in senescent melanocytes that modulate hair growth. RNA-seq analyses revealed specific gene expression patterns in nevus skin cells, and functional experiments demonstrated that senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors significantly enhance hair follicle stem cell activity, leading to excessive hair growth. The findings suggest that targeting SASP-enriched pathways could offer new therapeutic strategies for hair loss and tissue regeneration disorders.
