Sensitive Cu2+ detection by reversible on-off fluorescence using Eu3+ complexes in SiO2, in chitosan/polyethylene oxide nanofibers

    This study investigated the use of luminescent europium complexes for detecting Cu2+ ions, utilizing [Eu3+(TTA)3phen] complexes encapsulated in silica nanoparticles and incorporated into chitosan/polyethylene oxide nanofibers. The combination enhanced fluorescence performance, allowing for sensitive detection of Cu2+ concentrations as low as 10 μmol/L. The material's composition made it suitable for detecting copper ions in biological systems, highlighting its potential application in monitoring heavy metal ion levels in the human body.
