TLDR A new method accurately measures nine steroid hormones in human serum with high sensitivity.
The study developed a highly sensitive method for simultaneously measuring nine steroid hormones in human serum using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) with picolinyl derivatization. The hormones included Estrone, estradiol, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, androstenedione, progesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, and cortisol. The method demonstrated enhanced specificity and sensitivity, with limits of quantification ranging from 1 to 100 pg/tube and accuracy and precision within ±15%. This method was successfully applied to measure steroid hormones in children's serum, showing high reliability and reproducibility.
