TLDR Mild changes in bone markers relate to TCM syndromes in CKD-MBD patients.
The study analyzed the relationship between serum bone metabolic markers and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes in 105 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 and 4-related mineral and bone disorder (MBD). It found that these patients exhibited mild abnormalities in serum bone metabolic markers and were predominantly characterized by TCM syndromes of Yang deficiency in the Spleen and Kidney, Qi deficiency, and blood stasis. The study identified specific interdependent relationships between abnormalities in markers like calcium, phosphonium, and iPTH with various TCM syndromes, such as hair loss, tooth shake, and sexual dysfunction. The findings suggested that serum bone metabolic markers could serve as objective factors for TCM syndrome differentiation in CKD-MBD patients.
