Studying the Relationship Between Serum Copper Levels and Vitamin D in Alopecia Areata Patients with Controls in India

    Krishna Chaitanya Paleti
TLDR Alopecia areata patients have lower vitamin D and slightly lower copper levels, so these should be checked.
This study investigated the serum levels of copper and vitamin D in 150 patients with alopecia areata compared to 150 healthy controls in India. The results showed that individuals with alopecia areata had significantly lower blood levels of vitamin D and slightly lower serum copper levels than the healthy controls. The study concludes that assessing serum copper and vitamin D should be part of the chemical evaluation for patients with alopecia areata.
