TLDR Men with androgenetic alopecia may have higher cardiovascular risk due to elevated serum endocan levels.
This study investigated the serum endocan levels and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in 60 male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to age and gender-matched controls. The research, conducted at Benha University Hospital, found that serum endocan levels were significantly lower in the control group compared to the AGA group, suggesting a potential link between AGA and cardiovascular risk. However, there was no significant difference in CIMT between the two groups, indicating that while endocan levels may be associated with AGA, CIMT does not show a critical change.
