TLDR Serum ferritin can help diagnose Telogen Effluvium.
This study investigated the diagnostic value of serum ferritin levels in patients with Telogen Effluvium (TE), a common cause of hair loss in females. Conducted on 100 subjects, it included 50 TE patients and 50 healthy controls matched for age and sex. The study found a significant increase in scalp pain and itching among TE cases compared to healthy subjects. Serum ferritin levels were measured, and at a cutoff of 42.85, serum ferritin effectively differentiated between TE patients and healthy controls, indicating its potential as a diagnostic marker for TE.
