TLDR Serum IMA levels don't help diagnose AGA but may indicate its severity.
This study evaluated serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels in 45 male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to 45 healthy controls. The results showed no significant difference in median serum IMA levels between patients and controls, indicating poor diagnostic performance for AGA (AUC=0.537, sensitivity 55.6%, specificity 55.6%). However, higher IMA levels were associated with advanced alopecia severity, particularly in grade 7 alopecia and specific dermoscopic patterns. Thus, while serum IMA lacks diagnostic value, it may correlate with disease progression in AGA.
