TLDR COC treatment improves hormone and metabolic levels in PCOS patients.
This study examined the serum metabolic profiles of 50 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to 50 healthy controls and assessed the impact of compound oral contraceptive (COC) treatment over three cycles. The results showed significant improvements in sex hormone levels, including reductions in luteinizing hormone and free testosterone, in PCOS patients after COC treatment. Metabolomic analysis identified differences in metabolites such as N-tetradecanamide and hexadecanamide between PCOS patients and healthy controls, with additional changes in benzoic acid and phenolamides post-treatment. The study concluded that COC treatment effectively regulates sex hormones, endocrine factors, and serum metabolic profiles in PCOS patients, indicating its potential as a therapeutic strategy.
