TLDR SGK1 is important in cancer growth and treatment resistance, and targeting it could improve therapies.
Serum and glucocorticoid-regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) plays a significant role in cancer progression and treatment resistance, with its dysregulation linked to tumor growth and metastasis in various cancers such as breast, lung, gastric, and prostate. A bibliometric analysis of 5322 articles from 2013 to 2023 identifies China as a leading contributor to SGK1 research, followed by the USA and Germany. SGK1's involvement in cellular functions like metabolism, apoptosis, and cell survival underscores its potential as a therapeutic target. The study suggests that targeting SGK1 could enhance cancer treatment efficacy, although further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and develop effective therapies. The analysis also highlights SGK1's potential as a prognostic marker and its role in resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, suggesting future research directions in biomarker discovery and combination therapies.
