Allium ascalonicum (shallot) shows promising antidiabetic activity, primarily through α-glucosidase inhibition, which helps reduce blood glucose levels and oxidative stress. This effect is mainly due to quercetin and other flavonoids. While in vitro, in vivo, and limited human studies support its potential as a natural α-glucosidase inhibitor, further clinical research and toxicity assessments are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety for diabetes management.
