TLDR The topical formula with sidr leaves and roasted candlenut extracts significantly boosts hair growth for alopecia.
This study investigates the potential of a topical emulgent containing purified extracts of sidr leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) and roasted candlenut seeds (Aleurites moluccanus L.) as a natural therapy for alopecia. Conventional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride have limitations and side effects, prompting the need for safer alternatives. The extracts were obtained using ultrasound-assisted extraction and soxhlet methods, with HPLC analysis revealing key compounds such as rutin, quercetin, and gallic acid. The formulation demonstrated optimal physical properties, including physiological pH, optimal spreadability, stable viscosity, and good stability in freeze-thaw tests. A 21-day in vivo test showed that the combination formula significantly enhanced hair growth compared to the base and 2% minoxidil, attributed to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of flavonoids that support the extension of the anagen phase.
