Pattern of Skin Problems in Cats at Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center, Dhaka, Bangladesh

A retrospective study at the Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh, analyzed skin diseases in 399 cats from January to December 2023. The study found that 6.70% of the cats had various skin disorders, with bacterial dermatitis being the most common (25.56%) and mixed infections and worm infestations the least common (0.75% each). Other conditions included fungal dermatitis, allergies, fleas, mites, feline acne, psychogenic alopecia, and nutritional deficiencies. Young cats (0-1 year) were significantly more susceptible to skin issues, and semi-intensive rearing systems increased the risk. The study emphasizes the importance of regular skin care and deworming, especially in young cats, to mitigate skin problems.
