TLDR Plant-derived PDRN from ginseng roots effectively heals skin and improves its barrier.
The study evaluates the effectiveness of polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) from Panax ginseng roots in skin regeneration and barrier improvement, showing it as a promising alternative to animal-derived PDRN. Using microfluidization, Panax PDRN was found to significantly enhance keratinocyte and fibroblast proliferation, activate the A2A receptor, and improve wound healing and skin barrier function in a 3D skin model. It increased trans-epidermal electrical resistance and expression of skin differentiation markers more effectively than retinoic acid, highlighting its potential for medical applications while supporting environmental and animal welfare. Future research will explore PDRN from other plants to establish PhytoPDRN as a suitable replacement.
