TLDR HEV light can harm or help skin and scalp, so safe exposure guidelines are needed.
The research letter explores the dual effects of high-energy visible (HEV) light on skin and scalp health, noting both risks and benefits. HEV light, from the sun and electronic devices, can cause oxidative stress and DNA damage, potentially worsening conditions like psoriasis and androgenetic alopecia. Conversely, HEV light may aid in dermatological treatments by reducing inflammation and promoting healing in conditions such as acne and alopecia areata. The study calls for guidelines on safe exposure levels and further research into the cumulative effects of HEV light.
