TLDR Stem cells in cashmere goats are found in hair follicles and have a slow growth rate.
The study investigated the localization of skin stem cells in Inner Mongolia cashmere goats, focusing on primary and secondary hair follicles and the epidermis. By using BrdU labeling, researchers confirmed the presence of stem cells in these areas, with BrdU remaining detectable for up to 10 weeks. The study found that stem cells were located in the dermal papilla of hair follicles, which exhibited unlimited proliferative capacity when cultivated with collagen IV. These stem cells were characterized by their round or polygonal shape, large nuclei, and slow cell cycle, with a significant percentage (73.98%±4.74%) of cells in the G0/G1 phase, indicating a slow proliferation rate.

Treatments for hair loss, including finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole, microneedling, and low level laser light therapy, which aim to reduce DHT production, increase cell absorption and blood flow, and stimulate epidermal stem cells. It also stresses the importance of patience when using these treatments.
