TLDR Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is crucial for gecko tail regeneration.
The study on the common house gecko (Hemidactylus platyurus) reveals that the Sonic hedgehog (Shh) pathway plays a crucial role in tail regeneration. Conducted with 28 geckos, the research shows that Shh expression begins on day 1 post-autotomy, peaks at day 14, stabilizes until day 21, and decreases by day 30. There is a strong positive correlation between Shh expression and tail length from day 1 to day 14, and a strong negative correlation from day 21 to day 30. The findings emphasize Shh's importance in tissue homeostasis and the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of blastema cells during the regeneration process.
