TLDR Southern elephant seals develop hair follicles and skin layers before birth, with moulting starting a week after birth and finishing in three weeks.
The study detailed the embryological development of hair follicles and foetal pelage in the southern elephant seal, Mirounga leonina, identifying 10 stages. Follicle primordia appeared at about 8 weeks post-implantation, with definitive hair growth taking 14 weeks. Sebaceous glands developed rapidly after sweat glands, contributing to hair canal formation. The study noted the absence of certain epidermal layers and described the development of dermal structures. The first adult-type hair generation was observed in near-term foetuses and young pups, with post-natal moulting beginning 1 week after birth and completing in 3 weeks. The study found that foetal hairs were shed individually, while subsequent hair generations were united with the epidermis after the post-natal moult.

community Dht kills hair, but no one says why?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  40 upvotes 5 months ago
DHT affects hair follicles, contributing to hair loss, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are used to manage hair loss, though they may have side effects and varying effectiveness.

community The pessimism about the Crisp Cas 9 is excessive

CRISPR Cas9 could potentially treat baldness by targeting specific genes in hair follicles without affecting other body functions. There is optimism about its future use, despite ethical concerns and the current reliance on treatments like minoxidil and finasteride.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.

A user shared their successful hair regrowth using a combination of minoxidil, caffeine, biotin, and RU58841, along with weekly dermarolling. However, others advised against the user's plan to switch to rosemary oil and microneedling only, emphasizing the importance of continuing the current treatment to maintain the results.
