TLDR Pregnancy-related skin disorders need accurate diagnosis and treatment to prevent risks to the baby.
Pregnancy-specific dermatoses, including atopic eruption of pregnancy, polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, and pemphigoid gestationis, are pruritic skin disorders occurring during pregnancy or postpartum. Accurate diagnosis is crucial due to overlapping symptoms, with some conditions like intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and pemphigoid gestationis posing significant fetal risks such as preterm birth and stillbirth. The pathophysiology involves hormonal, immunological, genetic, and environmental factors, though it is not fully understood. Treatment focuses on symptomatic relief, primarily using topical corticosteroids and oral antihistamines, with ursodeoxycholic acid for intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. A multidisciplinary approach is vital for optimal outcomes, and further research is needed to improve understanding and treatment.
