No Effects of Statins on Improvement of Alopecia Areata: A Four-Year Retrospective Cohort Study in a Metropolitan Area

This retrospective cohort study examined 6,617 patients with hair disorders to investigate the potential effects of statins on alopecia areata (AA) improvement. The study found that statins are not an independent predictor of AA improvement. Instead, age and the use of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injections were identified as the best predictors of AA improvement. The study concludes that statins do not serve as an effective therapy for alopecia areata. The retrospective nature of the study limits the ability to determine causality, although statistical methods were used to address this limitation.
