Steroid Cell Tumor Without Virilization

Steroid cell tumors of the ovary were a rare type of sex-cord stromal tumor, accounting for less than 0.1% of ovarian tumors, and typically produced testosterone leading to virilizing symptoms such as hirsutism and male pattern baldness. However, this document discussed a unique case of a steroid cell tumor with malignant potential that did not present any virilizing symptoms. Instead, the patient exhibited unusual findings such as osteopenia and being underweight. The evaluation of androgenic excess through serum testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) measurement was emphasized as essential in such cases.
