TLDR Improper steroid use can cause skin issues like rosacea, which may improve after stopping the steroid and using benzoyl peroxide.
A 50-year-old Japanese woman developed erythematous nodules on her left cheek after using topical corticosteroids for 4 years. A biopsy revealed perifolliculitis and folliculitis with hair follicle destruction, leading to a diagnosis of unilateral steroid-induced rosacea-like dermatitis (SIRD). After discontinuing the steroid and starting benzoyl peroxide treatment, the nodules flattened over 1.5 years. This case underscored the importance of proper steroid application and histopathological analysis for facial erythematous nodules.
