TLDR A wearable patch speeds up healing of chronic wounds by monitoring and treating them.
The study introduced a stretchable wireless wearable bioelectronic system for monitoring and treating infected chronic wounds. This system featured a multiplexed electrochemical biosensor array for real-time monitoring of wound biomarkers and provided combination therapy through controlled drug release and electrical stimulation. Tested in rodent models, the patch demonstrated high accuracy in biomarker monitoring and significantly accelerated wound healing, including hair follicle neogenesis and improved molecular markers. The device was biocompatible, adhered well to the skin, and aimed to offer personalized treatment with minimal side effects. Despite promising results, challenges such as continuous wound fluid sampling and sensor stability were noted for future research.
