TLDR H. pylori infection may be linked to insulin resistance in women with PCOS.
This study investigated the correlation between Helicobacter pylori infection and insulin resistance in 130 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Baghdad, divided into 90 PCOS patients and 40 controls. Results showed that women with PCOS, both treated and untreated with metformin, had significantly higher levels of fasting blood sugar, insulin, and insulin resistance compared to controls. Notably, 47.3% of metformin-treated and 52.7% of untreated PCOS patients tested positive for CagA-IgG, a marker associated with H. pylori infection, while no controls did. The findings suggest a potential link between CagA-IgG positivity and metabolic disturbances, particularly insulin regulation and resistance, in women with PCOS.
