Surgery Experiences of Patients With Hematologic Cancer, Individual Applications for Symptoms Due to Chemotherapy and Determination of Anxiety Levels

    TLDR Patients with hematologic cancer had mild anxiety, low surgical knowledge, and the pandemic increased their anxiety.
    The study investigated the surgical experiences, anxiety levels, and symptom management practices of 74 patients with hematologic cancer. The average age was 63.76 years, with 47.3% female and 47.3% diagnosed with lymphoma. Results showed that 67.6% had undergone surgery, and 32% received education. The mean Beck Anxiety Scale score indicated mild anxiety. Significant differences were found between education, employment status, and various factors like postoperative education, gender-related hair loss, and the impact of COVID-19 on chemotherapy. Overall, patients had low knowledge about surgical procedures, did not engage in negative practices due to chemotherapy, and experienced mild anxiety, with the pandemic influencing anxiety levels.
