This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of FDA-approved, home-use low-level light/laser therapy (LLLT) devices for treating pattern hair loss (PHL). The analysis included seven double-blinded, randomized controlled trials and found a significant increase in hair density for those treated with LLLT compared to sham devices (SMD: 1.27, 95% CI: 0.993-1.639). Subgroup analyses showed increased hair growth in both male and female subjects using comb- and helmet-type devices. The study concluded that LLLT is potentially effective for PHL treatment, but recommended long-term follow-up studies and comparisons between different LLLT devices and energy sources.
