The global increase in the elderly population, due to rising life expectancy, has led to a higher prevalence of cognitive disorders, such as mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. These disorders are characterized by noticeable changes in cognitive abilities and daily functioning. Primary care management involves early identification and screening, followed by assessment, diagnosis, and interventions that may include environmental, psychological, behavioral, social engagement, nutritional adjustments, sleep interventions, and neuropsychiatric symptom management. Emphasizing dementia screening and cognitive evaluation is crucial for preparing healthcare providers, and general practitioners should refer patients showing early signs of cognitive impairment, like memory or language issues.
