Trichloroacetic Acid 35% Versus Cryotherapy in Treatment of Resistant Alopecia Areata

    This study compared the effectiveness of Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA, 35%) and superficial cryotherapy in treating resistant alopecia areata in 32 patients. The results showed that TCA was more effective, with 37.5% of patients experiencing an "excellent" outcome compared to 6.25% in the cryotherapy group. Additionally, 43.75% of patients in the cryotherapy group showed no change, while only 12.5% in the TCA group showed no change, indicating a statistically significant difference. The study concludes that TCA 35% is an effective, simple, and safe treatment for both stable and progressive alopecia areata, whereas cryotherapy is mainly effective in stable cases.
