TLDR Traditional Chinese medicine for hair loss focuses on "tonifying and activating blood, nourishing the liver and kidney."
This study utilized R-language data mining to analyze 163 patents from the national patent database, focusing on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds for hair loss treatment. The analysis identified 372 Chinese medicines, with core ingredients including lateral cypress leaf, Angelica sinensis, and He Shouwu. These compounds are characterized by warm, cold, and calm properties, with flavors of bitterness, sweetness, and pungency, and are associated with the liver, lung, and spleen meridians. The study highlights the TCM concept of "tonifying and activating blood, nourishing the liver and kidney" as central to treating alopecia areata. This research provides insights into optimizing clinical use and developing new drugs for hair loss with fewer side effects compared to Western medicine treatments like minoxidil.
