TLDR COVID-19 may trigger hair loss in some people.
The study investigates the incidence of telogen effluvium (TE), a form of non-scarring alopecia, in patients from Guanambi, Bahia, who had previously been infected with COVID-19. It suggests a potential link between COVID-19 and TE due to a pro-inflammatory state and cytokine production affecting hair follicles. The research is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study using questionnaires, including participants over 18 years old who had COVID-19 between 2020 and 2022. The study highlights a lack of research on this topic and calls for further studies to improve early diagnosis and management of TE related to COVID-19.
