TLDR Onyx® embolization effectively treats facial arteriovenous malformations with minimal complications.
This case report describes a 34-year-old male who experienced temporary alopecia following endovascular treatment for an arteriovenous malformation on the face. The treatment involved diagnostic arteriography and embolization with Onyx®, a procedure performed successfully without complications. Three weeks post-procedure, the patient developed localized hair loss in the right occipitoparietal region, which was treated with topical Minoxidil and oral Cilostazol. Hair regrowth occurred spontaneously within 2 months. The study concludes that Onyx® embolization is an effective therapeutic option for facial arteriovenous malformations, preserving critical structures and having a low complication rate in the medium to long term.
