Effect of Testosterone and Its Antagonists on Knee Range of Motion Through RXFP1 and RXFP2 Regulation in Rat Model

    The study investigated the effects of testosterone and its antagonists, flutamide and finasteride, on knee joint range of motion (ROM) in 42 ovariectomized female Wistar Kyoto rats. Testosterone was found to decrease knee ROM, while the antagonists increased it. Both flutamide and finasteride independently blocked testosterone's effects and increased the expression of RXFP1 and RXFP2 receptors in the patellar tendon and collateral ligament. The findings suggested that testosterone acted as a primary mediator in reducing knee ROM through RXFP1 and RXFP2 receptors, while the antagonists inhibited this effect by altering receptor expression.
