TLDR An elemental database for Chinese herbal remedies was created to explore the role of inorganic species in medicine.
The document discussed the creation of an elemental database for Chinese traditional herbal remedies, highlighting the potential of bioactive, small molecule, metallo-species in these natural products. While traditional research focused on organic molecules, this project aimed to explore the role of inorganic species in biology, particularly within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The strategy involved reconciling bioinorganic and medicinal inorganic chemistry knowledge with TCM information to identify these metallo-species, which could contribute to therapeutic value and drug development. The creation of this database was a first step towards addressing the research gap in bioinorganic components of traditional medicines.
