TLDR Lifestyle changes improve weight, waist size, menstrual regularity, and acne in teens with PCOS.
This randomized controlled trial involving 128 adolescent girls aged 14 to 18 examined the effects of a lifestyle promotion program on those with and without polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). The intervention, which included dietary changes and increased physical activity, led to significant improvements in weight, waist circumference, menstrual regularity, and acne in both PCOS and non-PCOS groups. However, hair loss did not show significant changes. The study underscores the potential of lifestyle interventions to enhance anthropometric and clinical outcomes in adolescents with PCOS, suggesting that high schools could be effective venues for implementing such programs. Despite challenges like low self-esteem and resource scarcity, the findings highlight the importance of early lifestyle education in managing PCOS symptoms and improving overall well-being.
