The Invisible Threat to Hair and Scalpfrom Air Pollution

    Eunhye Son, Ki Han Kwon
TLDR Air pollution can damage hair and scalp, causing hair loss and inflammation.
Continuous exposure to air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter, can lead to hair damage, hair loss, seborrheic scalpitis, and hair follicle inflammation due to oxidative stress and free radicals. A systematic review of 54 articles highlighted these effects and mechanisms. The study also identified substances with anti-inflammatory properties that may counteract these conditions and suggested directions for future research.
