TLDR About 32.5% of stray cats in Bogor have a skin infection called Microsporum canis.
This study investigated the prevalence of Microsporum canis dermatophytosis in 40 symptomatic stray cats in Bogor, Indonesia. Dermatophytosis, a common infectious skin condition in cats, poses control challenges, especially in unsanitary environments. Samples were collected from cats with symptoms like erythema, alopecia, and scaly skin between March and October 2024. The samples were cultured, and 13 cats (32.5%) tested positive for Microsporum canis, indicating a significant presence of dermatophyte infections in the area. The findings highlight concerns about the zoonotic potential of these infections in stray cats.
