TLDR The study initially suggested a genetic link between thyroid issues and hair loss.
This study, which has been retracted, initially suggested a genetic link between thyroid dysfunctions such as hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis, and alopecia areata (AA). Using the two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method, the study aimed to provide unbiased results confirming a causal relationship. The findings were intended to support further research into the biological mechanisms connecting thyroid dysfunction and AA, as well as potential clinical applications.
