TLDR Alopecia areata patients may have higher T3 and cortisol levels, suggesting a hormonal link.
The study assessed thyroid dysfunction and cortisol levels in 80 alopecia areata (AA) patients compared to 40 healthy controls. Results showed that AA patients had significantly higher serum T3 and cortisol levels than controls, although all values were within normal ranges. No significant differences were found in T4 and TSH levels. These findings suggest a potential hormonal involvement in AA, particularly concerning T3 and cortisol, warranting further investigation.
